South Carolina women's basketball adds new game to 2025-2026 schedule

South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley takes scheduling very seriously. As such, Staley and the Gamecocks have no qualms about playing tough out-of-conference matchups. USC also will add those games to the schedule, whether they are at home, on the road, or at a neutral site.
On Thursday, South Carolina announced a new road game for the 2025-2026 season. The Gamecocks will travel to Tampa on December 18th to take on the South Florida Bulls at the Yuengling Center. The trip to the Sunshine State has been expected as part of a home-and-home agreement between the two programs.
Last season, Dawn Staley’s team got the best of Jose Fernandez’s group, winning 78-62 at Colonial Life Arena. South Carolina’s WNBA-bound seniors and true freshman star led the way in that game as Te-Hina Paopao, Sania Feagin, Bree Hall, and Joyce Edwards combined to score 50 points.

The road contest against South Florida is one of several high-profile non-conference games on the docket.
As they always do, the Gamecocks will face off with the rival Clemson Tigers next season. This year’s installment of the Palmetto State rivalry will be in Columbia.

On the road, South Carolina will take on the Southern Cal Trojans in Los Angeles. “The other USC” will return the favor with a trip to Greenville next season. South Carolina played Duke in Columbia as part of last year’s SEC/ACC Challenge. Because of that, the Gamecocks’ SEC/ACC Challenge contest should come on the road this season, though the opponent is not yet known.
Carolina also will play three neutral-site games in the Players Era Championship tournament in Las Vegas. Duke, UCLA, and Texas will be in Vegas for the event, as well. In the round-robin event, the Gamecocks will play all three opponents, but the matchup against Texas (an SEC foe) will be a non-conference affair.
Coach Staley is still working on the rest of the non-con schedule. As of today, neither South Carolina nor UConn have announced any news about renewing the annual rivalry between the Gamecocks and Huskies.
