On Sunday, South Carolina women’s basketball lost to the Texas Longhorns in Austin. The defeat was the Gamecocks’ first regular season conference loss since 2021. However, despite losing, USC helped give ESPN a win.

While competing against some pregame Super Bowl coverage, South Carolina-Texas managed to average over 1 million viewers on Sunday. The top-5 showdown peaked at a 1.3 million-person viewership number. ESPN PR announced the figures on Tuesday. Both of those numbers are the highest for an ESPN-aired women’s basketball game this season. The only games with more watchers this season aired on Fox.

The Gamecocks are no strangers to drawing lots of eyeballs. Last season, South Carolina-UConn broke the 1 million-viewer barrier, and the 2022-2023 South Carolina-LSU game nearly cracked 1.5 million.

This weekend, Dawn Staley’s crew could do it again.

USC will renew its annual rivalry against the UConn Huskies on Sunday afternoon. With College GameDay in town, the Gamecocks and Huskies will tip off at 1:00 p.m. in Colonial Life Arena. ABC will broadcast the top 10 matchup (ABC and ESPN will split the GameDay pregame show), and the ESPN app will make it available for streaming.

Both South Carolina and UConn are ranked in the AP top 10. However, the two teams rank even higher in the NET, slotting in at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Even though the Gamecocks have two losses on the season, a win over Geno Auriemma’s team will bolster USC’s claim to the country’s top resume.

Before the highly anticipated game against UConn, Carolina has an SEC contest. The Gamecocks will host the Florida Gators at CLA on Thursday night. SEC Network will air the 7:00 p.m. meeting, and the ESPN app will stream it.
