This week in South Carolina women's basketball
South Carolina women’s basketball went 2-0 last week with wins over two teams from the Lone Star State. Texas A&M and Texas traveled to Columbia, but the Gamecocks emerged victorious from both contests. Following the team’s winning streak moving to 11 consecutive games, USC is still No. 2 in the AP rankings and No. 1 in the NET. Below is a brief overview of South Carolina’s previous week and a look ahead to what’s to come next week.

South Carolina Gamecocks smack Texas A&M Aggies
Carolina dominated Texas A&M from start to finish. The Gamecocks won all four quarters, including both the 1st and 3rd periods by at least 15 points. Dawn Staley’s team smothered the Aggies as they held the visitors to less than 30% shooting from the field.
For the game, South Carolina had almost as many assists (20) as A&M had total made baskets (21). Five Gamecocks had multiple assists, led by Te-Hina Paopao’s six.
Six South Carolina stars finished with double-digit scoring numbers against Texas A&M. Joyce Edwards led all scorers (19) and rebounders (10) as she logged another double-double.

South Carolina Gamecocks handle ‘Horns in top-5 matchup
South Carolina’s stifling defense kept Texas’ highly-rated offense at bay on Sunday. UT shot just 27.85% from the floor, including just 10-for-46 numbers from the starters.
Seven Gamecocks had at least seven points against Texas. That balanced effort translated to the defensive end of the court, as well. Bree Hall, Sania Feagin, Raven Johnson, and MiLaysia Fulwiley were among the best defenders on the day.

Despite giving up 11 offensive rebounds in the opening four minutes of the game, South Carolina bounced back to win the battle on the boards, 42-40.

What’s coming next for South Carolina women’s basketball
While the Gamecocks played two games at home last week, they will travel for one road contest this week before returning home again. Both contests will be against ranked opponents, too. Heading into the week, South Carolina has moved its record SEC regular season winning streak to 51 games in a row.
On Thursday, the Gamecocks will be in Tuscaloosa for a date with No. 19 Alabama at 7:00 p.m. The Crimson Tide went 1-1 last week with a loss to Texas and a win over Ole Miss. This week’s matchup will not be on traditional television but will stream on the ESPN app.
Then, on Sunday, South Carolina will be back in Columbia for a meeting against No. 13 Oklahoma. Last week, Jennie Baranczyk’s team went 1-1 with a loss to Mississippi State and a win over Texas A&M. In the “We Back Pat” contest, the Gamecocks and Sooners will tip at 3:00 p.m. ESPN and the ESPN app will handle coverage for the game.
