South Carolina women's basketball alums claim both WNBA Conference Player of the Week honors

South Carolina women’s basketball alums A’ja Wilson and Allisha Gray are off to fast starts to the young WNBA season. On Tuesday, the Gamecocks’ efforts were rewarded. The WNBA announced that both the Western Conference Player of the Week and Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors belonged to the USC greats. Wilson (Las Vegas Aces) won the award for the West, while Gray (Atlanta Dream) earned the distinction for the East.
It is the first weekly honor for both players during the 2025 season. Wilson has now won the Western Conference Player of the Week 23 times, passing Tamika Catchings for the fourth-most ever. Only Tina Charles (33), Candace Parker (27), and Elena Delle Donne (24) have won the weekly honor more often. Despite being a two-time All-Star, Gray’s recognition is the first of her career.

For Wilson, the selection comes on the heels of a 27-point, 10-rebound, 4.5-assist, 3.5-block, and 3-steal per game effort. She also shot better than 50% from the field, 40% from the 3-point arc, and a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line. Unsurprisingly, the Aces won both of their games.

Gray earned her player of the week honor thanks to averaging 26.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. She shot an efficient 15-for-23 from the floor, 5-for-8 from the perimeter, and 18-for-20 from the free throw line. The Dream also went 2-0 last week. In a bit of ironic scheduling, Atlanta beat the Los Angeles Sparks and Seattle Storm, the same teams Vegas defeated.
So far this season, the Aces are 4-2, and the Dream are 5-2. Vegas remains a championship favorite, while Atlanta has been one of the WNBA’s most improved teams.
