South Carolina's Jordan Burch, Alex Huntley are no strangers to the spotlight
From their days as teammates at Hammond, Jordan Burch and Alex Huntley know what it’s like to play in the spotlight.
As the two head into year three at South Carolina, the two defensive linemen are ready to take that next step. Something that will be vital after losing key contributors upfront from the Gamecocks’ 2021 defense.
“Going into this year I feel pretty excited,” said Burch. “I’ve been waiting for this moment to start at Willy B. I’m not trying to let it get to me too much. Just trying to stay consistent and stay humble and accomplish what I can.”
After battling through injuries his freshman year, Burch flashed in 2021. Playing primarily as a backup, he recorded 26 tackles while also adding 2.6 tackles for loss and a sack. He also returned an interception 61 yards for a touchdown.
Like Burch, Huntley has had to battle his own injuries since arriving to South Carolina. The redshirt sophomore battled through an ankle injury for the majority of his freshman season. Two years removed from it, he’s excited for what this year could look like for him.

“It’s definitely big shoes to fill (on the defensive line),” said Huntley. “Jabari (Ellis) was a guy I stayed around a lot and learned a lot from. He have great guys on the team like Zacch Pickens who are gonna come in (to help fill those shoes). But (Ellis) definitely left this group in great hands and taught this group a lot.”
Last season Huntley complied 11 tackles including a tackle for loss in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
Two new weekly shows on Gamecock Central
Earlier this week, Gamecock Central launched one of its new shows, “GC Live: Talking Tuesday Nights.” These shows will air every Tuesday night at 7 hosted by Gamecock Central’s Mike Uva.
Starting on Saturday, we’ll be adding a postgame show to the GC Live brand. The shows will air shortly after the game ends for USC. Like normal GC Live shows they’ll be available to watch on YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook. One of the wrinkles we’re adding to this show (which will also be available for GC Live: Talking Tuesday Nights next week) is a call-in feature. We’ll have more details before this weekend on how that will work.
These shows are about y’all. We want to hear from you. So call-in and let your voice be heard. We’ll recap games but this will be an extended part of The Insiders Forum each week.
If you haven’t already be sure to subscribe to Gamecock Central’s YouTube page HERE.
Miss last night’s GC Live: Talking Tuesday Nights? No problem. See the video below for the complete show.
