South Carolina's season ends with record-setting loss in SEC Tournament

Time has run out on South Carolina in 2025. The worst season in program history has ended. The clock now restarts with a long offseason ahead.
The Gamecocks were eliminated from the SEC Tournament after an 11-3 loss to Florida in the first round on Tuesday. They’ve now allowed double-digit runs for the 16th time in 57 total games this year.
With the loss in Hoover, South Carolina (28-29, 6-24 SEC) will end the season with a losing record for the second time in four seasons. After already setting the program record for most SEC losses, the team has now lost the most games in a season.

Much like when the Gators scored 39 runs in Columbia at the beginning of May, they continued that trend in the subsequent rematch. Brandon Stone only lasted three innings, giving up five runs on six hits in his final start of the year.
After Stone got two quick outs to begin the second inning, the next two batters reached base before Bobby Boser hit a go-ahead three-run homer into left centerfield. The right-hander’s struggles continued into the third as he gave up a solo shot to Brody Donay and an RBI double to Hayden Yost.

Ryder Garino gave up two runs in two innings of work after Stone exited the game. The freshman struck out three without any walks. In his final collegiate outing, Matthew Becker retired the side with two strikeouts in the seventh. The senior left-hander is one of three players on the team to spend their entire career at South Carolina.
For as quickly as South Carolina fell behind, it’s easy to forget that it had the lead at one point. The Gamecocks scored one run in the first, but it came on a Jase Woita double play with the bases loaded and no outs.
Their next runs wouldn’t come until the eighth, now behind in a six-run hole. Beau Hollins, who will finish the season hitting .308 as a freshman, got a brief rally going with a one-out single before KJ Scobey drove him in with an RBI double down the left field line. Jordan Carrion brought him home with the second run-scoring double of the inning.
Up next: The transfer portal will be open from June 2 to July 1 for all players. The Gamecocks will be back in action in February 2026 for Opening Day next season.
