Spencer Rattler makes good first impression with New Orleans

After having to wait until the fifth round, pick 150 to hear his named called in the NFL Draft, Spencer Rattler is already off to a good start with the New Orleans Saints.
This past weekend, the former South Carolina quarterback took part in the Saints rookie minicamp. The camp ran from Friday to Sunday and gave players a chance to get acclimated to the Saints playbook and culture.

During Saturday’s 7-on-7 and team drill periods, Rattler completed 11-of-12 passes, according to Saints News Network’s Ross Jackson. But it wasn’t just completing passes that grabbed the attention of his coaches.
“We like a lot of things about Spencer but the things that take no talent,” said Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. “To me, that’s his attention to detail. (That) really stuck out. His effort, his drive to be better. To me, that doesn’t take a whole lot of talent. It’s something that’s inside and he has that in spades.”
Rattler looking comfortable both on the field and in meetings has also grabbed the attention of New Orleans head coach Dennis Allen.

“He certainly looked fine to me,” Allen said following Saturday’s practice. “I thought that the last couple of days he’s done a pretty good job of getting guys in and out of the huddle. For the most part, there hasn’t been a lot of re-huddles. We’re getting the calls out and guys are executing.”
Rattler will get his first shot at working with some of the veteran players in the coming weeks. OTAs (organized team activities) for New Orleans are schedule to take place on May 21-23, May 28-30, June 3-6. Mandatory minicamp: is slated to be held from June 11-13.
Including ATH Taysom Hill, who is listed as quarterback but plays tight end as well, Rattler is one of five QBs on the Saints roster. Along with Hill, he also joins Derek Carr, Jake Haener, and Nathan Peterman.
