Spencer Rattler shares at NFL Combine what took his game to the "next level" in 2023
On Friday, former South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler met with the media at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
During his 12-minute media availability, Rattler was asked a variety of different questions including specific meetings with NFL teams as well as his own personal growth both as a player and as a person.
“Coach (Shane) Beamer is a great guy. (I) wanted to play for somebody like that,” said Rattler about his decision to transfer to South Carolina. “The university, the fanbase, everything. The conference, it’s the closest thing to the NFL. I wanted to be ready for this step. Coach Dowell Loggains, when he came in 2023, that took my game to the next level, I felt like. It was awesome.”

Working under Loggains’ tutelage, Rattler threw for a career-high 3,186 yards and 19 touchdown passes. He also rushed for four touchdowns and improved his rushing yards by more than double from his first season with the Gamecocks.
“That’s something that I wanted to show a lot more this (past) year and I felt like I did a better job with it. I felt like I needed to use my legs a little bit more (to) get some first downs and some explosive runs to help the team and I feel like I took strides in those areas.”

“You go through ups and downs. I’m not the first person to transfer or do this and that. I’ve always been confident in my faith, my family, my circle so I never lost my confidence. I knew if I (kept) working then one day I’d be here… I just naturally grew and learned how to go through adversity. How to be a better leader and we’re here now.”
Rattler is one of of five Gamecocks who were invited to this year’s NFL Combine. Joining Rattler is Trey Knox, Xavier Legette, Nick Gargiulo and Marcellas Dial. The quarterback will be taking part in field workouts on Saturday. For a full guide on Gamecocks at the NFL Combine CLICK HERE.
