Spencer Rattler talks 'partnership' with Dowell Loggains

South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler turned down an opportunity to jump early to the NFL to return to the Gamecocks for the 2023 season.
In doing so, he now has a chance to accomplish some things he felt he and the team left on the table in 2022.
Plus, he’ll have the opportunity to work with a veteran coach who happens to have plenty of years of service at the next level.

“I love the new offense with what Coach Dowell (Loggains) is doing,” Rattler told the media during a news conference on Wednesday. “I like his mindset. It’s been amazing. He’s had a lot of experience in the league, so being with him for a whole year will be great.”
Loggains, who has been given the nickname “D-Lo” by Rattler and his teammates, brings a demeanor to the program that’s been a welcomed addition for Gamecocks players.
“He’s the same guy in the meeting room as he is on the practice field, which is good to see. He’s true to who he is, he coaches well, coaches you up,” Rattler explained. “Doesn’t lose his mind. He’s just very particular and very detailed with what he wants. He’s making all of us better.”
Rattler, Shane Beamer, and plenty of others associated the program have frequently mentioned USC’s mindset shift in the final two games of the 2022 regular season as an impetus for a pair of top ten upsets.

The USC offense is looking to recreate that magic all year this time around.
“Toward the end of the season, as a team, we all played more loose and that’s when we played better,” Rattler said. “We’re just trying to do that in our spring ball, fall camp, going into the season.”
A bit part of that is Loggains making way for Rattler to do what he does best, to accentuate his strengths on the field.

“He just says ‘go play ball, go be you.’ That’s why I love being coached by him. He lets me be the point guard and run the show. I love the trust and belief from him to let me go out there and lead those guys,” said Rattler.
“He’s very open to input. We have a lot of great things that all of us are comfortable with. He’s been very open with me about what we want to do. I’m on the same page with him. Whenever I stay something, he’ll listen. Whenever he says something, I’ll listen. We work together. It’s a partnership.”
