Lucas spent the 2021 season as an assistant defensive line coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars before Shane Beamer hired him at South Carolina the following January.
In January of 2023, Lucas earned an extension and a raise, which at the time paid him $475,000 annually.
“He’s got a great energy about himself,” Shane Beamer said of Lucas in 2023. “A lot of times when you hire those NFL guys, you worry about, do they want to recruit? He’s an absolute animal at it. He enjoys it. When we talk about connecting to all the people close to a prospect, he does. He’s awesome.”
