Sunday night injury updates from Shane Beamer after South Carolina's win
One day after South Carolina’s big win over Missouri, head coach Shane Beamer delivered the latest news on all injured players from Saturday’s game.
Beamer said the most significant injury from the game is to tight end Brady Hunt. During the penultimate go-ahead scoring drive in the fourth quarter to go up 27-22, Hunt was down near the end zone and walked back towards the sideline with the trainers.
“He’s going to miss the next two games, for sure. He’s got a lower leg injury that was non-contact unfortunately,” Beamer said during his Sunday night teleconference. “We expect to have him back for the postseason, whatever that is, in December. Hate it for him, though. He’s been doing so much for us on offense and special teams. But that’s the most significant one.”

Hunt was one of the many heroes who helped the Gamecocks pick up the dramatic win on Saturday. He caught a huge third-down pass from LaNorris Sellers to keep an eventual touchdown drive alive in the fourth quarter when tight end Michael Smith scored from five yards out.
On the year, Hunt has only caught two passes for 22 yards. But he’s been a regular on the field with the offense and special teams.
In other injury news, Beamer anticipates defensive Judge Collier will be okay moving forward. With just over six minutes to go before halftime, Collier broke up a pass intended for Missouri receiver Marquis Johnson in the end zone. As the sophomore defensive back jumped in the air to try and make a play, he hit the ground hard and was down for a few minutes.

South Carolina’s training staff was quick to come out and check on Collier, head coach Shane Beamer followed suit shortly after. Collier eventually sat up and then was on his knees. He was able to get on his feet and walk back over to the sideline. But he wouldn’t play another snap on Saturday and was taken to the hospital.
“He had an upper body injury that he felt okay,” Beamer said on Saturday. “When I walked out to the field to check on him, he felt okay. And then they just wanted to take him to the hospital to check on everything. His parents went with him.”

Beamer also expects Smith will be okay. As aforementioned, the freshman caught the first go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter to put the Gamecocks ahead 27-22. Beamer added that Collier and Smith are being looked at today and Monday. He’ll have a better idea of their status on Tuesday and in the days leading up to the next game.
The Gamecocks are now 7-3 (5-3 SEC) on the season. They’ll finish out their final home stand of the season next against Wofford on Saturday. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. on ESPN Plus/SEC Network Plus.
