Talmadge LeCroy announces return for 5th season at South Carolina

The message was short, sweet and directly to the point: “Run it back.” Those were the three words at the bottom of the graphic announcing Talmadge LeCroy’s plans for 2026.
LeCroy will officially be returning for one final season at South Carolina. The senior catcher confirmed the news in an X post (formerly known as Twitter) on Friday.
“I’m so grateful to get to put on this uniform for a fifth season,” LeCroy said. “I want to finish my college career the right way and play another season with my teammates at the best university with the best coaches, staff and fans. I can’t wait for 2026. Go cocks!”
LeCroy, who only played in 17 games this season, dealt with his share of injuries throughout the season, starting in the first game of the year. He suffered an injury to his thumb in the second inning back on Opening Day, which he reaggravated in the middle game of the Clemson series on March 1.
At the time, head coach Paul Mainieri called it a “pretty significant break” in LeCroy’s thumb. This put him out of action until he returned on March 9. But later in the season, Mainieri revealed that LeCroy had suffered a hip injury, which abruptly ended his season after his last appearance on March 25.

But given how many games LeCroy missed this season, Mainieri had said that he would be able to medically redshirt.
“He actually does qualify for it, but barely,” Mainieri said. “He would have had to have played in 18 or less games, and he’s played in 17. So that wasn’t by design. That was just really kind of blind luck.”
In the games that he played in, LeCroy hit .188 with nine hits in 48-at bats. For his four-year career with the Gamecocks, he’s hit .255 with seven homers and 87 RBI in 173 games.
With his return for next season, he’ll be the last remaining player from the 2022 team after Matthew Becker and Evan Stone both ran out of eligibility.
