Ta'Lon Cooper signs pro deal with German basketball team

Former South Carolina guard Ta’Lon Cooper is heading to Europe.

After a solid college career, with his fifth and final season spent with the Gamecocks, Cooper is signing a deal with MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg, a professional basketball team based in Germany. South Carolina confirmed the news in an X post (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday.

MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg was originally founded in 1960 and has been in Basketball Bundesliga, which is the highest tier league in Germany, since 1979. The team finished 18-16 and finished in eighth place last season.

As for Cooper, this will be the next step in his pro career after signing an Exhibit-10 deal with the Orlando Magic earlier this summer. He scored six total points in NBA Summer League action with the team in July.

Cooper transferred to South Carolina before the start of the 2023-24 season and had a fine year. He averaged 9.9 points per game on 48 percent shooting from the field. He shot 45.9 percent from three-point range and averaged 4.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.

Before becoming a Gamecock, he spent time with Morehead State and Minnesota. For his career, he’s a career 8.8 points per game scorer with 3.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists. 

MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg begins the 2024-25 season against the FC Bayern Munich on Sept. 22.
