The road to Oklahoma City will run through Columbia.

In what has already been a strong season, South Carolina softball will be a national seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Gamecocks will be the No. 8 seed and host a regional at Beckham Field.

Since they are a top-eight seed, they will be at home if they advance to a Super Regional. They will be paired with No. 9 seed UCLA in the tournament bracket. The Los Angeles Regional includes one-seed UCLA, two-seed Arizona State, three-seed San Diego State, and four-seed UC Santa Barbara.

In the Columbia Regional, South Carolina will face Elon in the one-seed vs four-seed matchup. Two-seed Virginia and three-seed North Florida will face off in the other opening game of the weekend. The winner of each game will play each other the next day, while the losers will go on to play in an elimination game.

This will be South Carolina’s 25th trip to the tournament. The Gamecocks, who have now made the tournament in three straight seasons, last hosted postseason softball at Beckham Field in 2018, which was also the last time they advanced to a Super Regional. They’ll be vying for their first Women’s College World Series appearance since 1997.

In Ashley Chastain Woodard’s first season as head coach, South Carolina won 40 games for only the third time since 2003. Chastain Woodard broke the program record for wins as a first-year coach, which was previously held by Judy Martino with 38 wins in 1979.

Finishing above .500 in SEC play for the first time since 2018, the Gamecocks notably earned series wins over Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, and Alabama. They also did well in the non-conference slate, winning a pair of series against ranked foes Duke and Texas Tech.

South Carolina won its first game in the SEC Tournament, taking down Alabama in the second round, but fell in the quarterfinals in a 12-4 loss to Texas A&M on Thursday.

The Columbia Regional gets underway on Friday with North Florida and Virginia facing off at 3 p.m. South Carolina will get the night game and play Elon at 5:30 p.m. Both games will be on ESPN Plus.
