Two priority South Carolina football recruits announce commitment dates
Two of South Carolina’s primary targets are set to announce within the next month.
Safety Jalon Kilgore and also quarterback Dylan Lonergan will announce their schools between June 15 and July 5. Both are coming off South Carolina official visits this weekend.
Kilgore announced his commitment date of June 15, which is Wednesday, at 2 p.m. He’ll decide between Clemson, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee Tech and Michigan.
Kilgore is one of the best safeties in this class. On3 Consensus considers him the No. 371 player in the country and a four-star prospect. He’s the No. 31 safety in the 2023 class.
Right now On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) heavily favors the Gamecocks with a 92.1 percent prediction to land the defensive back.
He’s a 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect out of Putnam (Ga.) County High School.
Lonergan is another priority target for South Carolina on the offensive side of the ball, a top 150 player in both On3 Consensus rankings and the standalone On3 rankings.
The two-sport star announced he’ll make his decision at an unspecified time on July 5, which is also just under a month away.
On3 has Lonergan as the No. 120 player in the 2023 class while being the No. 8 quarterback. On3 Consensus puts him as the No. 86 overall player and ninth-best quarterback.
Both have him as a 93 overall player and four-star prospect.
He told On3 after his South Carolina official visit he has one more official visit lined up this summer to Stanford.

The Gamecocks are also heavy favorites to land the quarterback with a 63 percent chance in the RPM metric.
He recently visited Alabama and has a top-five that includes the Gamecocks, Tide and Cardinal along with Florida and Ohio State.
Lonergan is a two-sport star at Brookwood (Ga.) High School and the plan is for him to play baseball at whichever school he chooses. That option is on the table at South Carolina.
South Carolina is also at the end of a massive recruiting weekend, the first of the summer, that netted the Gamecocks four commitments.
So far two—tight end Connor Cox and receiver Kelton Henderson—have gone public with their announcements.
