Vandrevius Jacobs ready to showcase skillset in 'hungry' receivers room at South Carolina
As a Florida State transfer, Vandrevius Jacobs joins a wide receiver room ready to compete. Despite there being so much competition, Jacobs felt the support and love from his teammates almost immediately.
“They welcomed me in with open arms and they helped me learn the system. They made me feel pretty comfortable coming in,” Jacobs said.
While at Florida State, Jacobs caught three passes for 60 yards and one touchdown. However as a true freshman, Jacobs only appeared in five games.
Despite not seeing a lot of playing time, Jacobs is a strong pass catcher with experience in punt returning. Overall as a transfer, Jacobs ranked 110th amongst wide receivers as a three-star player.
“I like to think of myself as a deep threat like stretch the field vertically,” Jacobs said. “But really I just play where best for me in the system.”

Adjusting to a new program goes beyond meeting new teammates and learning new plays. Jacobs quickly learned what the weather is like during a summer in Columbia.
“Definitely that first practice that heat got to me I ain’t gonna lie,” Jacobs said. “That heat it was blazing out there so really getting used to the heat. Today was probably the best I felt out there on the field, it was just I had to get used to that heat. It was blazing out there, it’s hot but other than that the change of place.”

Amongst the wide receivers, they share one common goal while looking to benefit the team and support each other.
“All the receivers, they’re hungry,” Jacobs said. “All of us, we’re hungry to make plays and just to watch each other grow and watch each other make plays. We’re unselfish, we got that unselfish mindset. Like if someone else is making plays, good job to them, we’re happy for them. Whenever it’s our opportunity, we’re going to do our best to make the play too.”

In his time with the Seminoles, Jacobs made the most of his limited opportunities, but it wasn’t the best fit for his skillset. At South Carolina, the Florida native feels he can certainly flourish when the ball is in his hands.
“The biggest thing was really just the offensive system, the scheme,” Jacobs said. “The Florida State scheme ain’t really fit me best. I’m really not that type of receiver to play in that best fit in that system so when I got in the portal, (Dowell Loggains), I saw this offensive scheme I just fell in love with.”
