While South Carolina looks to continue to build on their 2024 recruiting class, the Gamecocks have already landed their first commitment for a future class. No, it’s not for the class of 2025 but rather for 2026 with one of the top prospects from the Southeast.

6-for-3, 187-pound QB Landon Duckworth has committed to Shane Beamer and South Carolina. Now you might be asking, if he’s yet to be rated then how is considered one of the top prospects for his grade. Well, as a freshman he threw for nearly 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also rushed for 355 yards and eight touchdowns. So that’s why. It’s also worth noting for those who don’t follow recruiting as closely that there’s no one currently ranked by On3 for the class of 2026. And if you’re keeping tab at home that makes Duckworth a sophomore.

The Alabama native has been receiving plenty of buzz and has picked up a long list of offers already. He chooses USC over schools including Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Texas A&M, TCU, UCF, and Vanderbilt.

Duckworth told Gamecock Central recruiting Insider Chris Clark, “South Carolina really laid out the red carpet and has shown regardless of it being three years from now I’m their top priority quarterback for the ’26 class. The message from Coach (Dowell) Loggains and the staff is that I’m a priority for the Gamecocks. Even though I have three years left, he’s all in right now.”

During the spring recruiting evaluation period, Loggains and area recruiter Jody Wright made an in-person trip to Alabama to watch him throw. While Duckworth becomes South Carolina’s first commitment for their 2026 class, he also becomes the Gamecocks first beyond the 2024 class as they currently have no commitments for their 2025 class. Something that at this point isn’t unusual for schools.
