Video: 4-star DB Kelvin Hunter commits to South Carolina
After already landing the top three players from the state of South Carolina for the class of 2024, the Gamecocks have added another commitment from the Palmetto State. One who is regarded as the top defensive player in the state for his class.
Four-star defensive back Kelvin Hunter has committed to Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks. Standing at just under 6-0 tall 180 pounds, Hunter is a product of West Florence High School and the fourth top overall prospect from South Carolina.

Hunter original had plans to visit South Carolina in June. But after a recent visit to watch South Carolina’s spring game, Hunter decided he didn’t want to wait any longer and wanted to go public with a decision this week. A decision that many felt was inevitable. The DB chooses the Gamecocks over schools including Virginia Tech, Michigan, Auburn, Kentucky and Coastal Carolina.

Throughout the recruiting process, he developed a strong relationship with USC defensive backs coach Torrian Gray, who throughout the spring has been praised by both Shane Beamer and defensive coordinator Clayton White as well as both current and former South Carolina defensive backs.
Regarded as the No.17 safety for the class of 2024, Hunter joins a handful of South Carolina natives who have already committed to the Gamecocks. Those players include four-star offensive lineman Josiah Thompson, four-star offensive lineman Kam Pringle, four-star wide receiver Mazeo Bennett, and three-star offensive lineman Blake Franks.
