Video: Ahmarean Brown shares what should make South Carolina's WR room special this year

When people talk about South Carolina’s wide receiver room, naturally it will start with ‘Juice’ Wells. But it shouldn’t end there.
Maybe on paper, statistically, the Gamecocks wide out group won’t blow many people away. But if you’ve been following this unit’s growth, they return plenty of experience and talent. Not to mention some new faces including Eddie Lewis and Nyck Harbor.
“It’s because we’re all different. We have smaller guys, we have bigger guys. We have guys who can go down the field and can catch it and we have guys who can take short (receptions) and take it 90,” said as Ahmarean Brown. “Because we have a mixture of different sizes and talents, there’s no limit to where we can go.”

That starts with USC’s two most proven wide outs, Wells and Xavier Legette. Wells was recently named second-team All-SEC. In his first year at South Carolina after transferring in from James Madison he hauled in 68 receptions for 928 yards and six touchdowns.
Legette returns for his fifth-year after posting a career-high seven receptions for 78 yards and two touchdowns against Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl. In his career, he has 42 receptions for 423 yards and five offensive touchdowns. He also added a score on special teams last season when he returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown against Texas A&M.

That brings us to Brown, who has quietly seen his role grow since arriving at South Carolina in 2021.
In two seasons at USC, Brown has recorded 34 receptions for 292 yards. Just this past season he saw his numbers go up in nearly every statistical category. That includes receptions, targets, and receiving yards. The only thing Brown hasn’t done yet at South Carolina is find the end zone.

Standing at just 5-9, 167 pounds, there’s no secret about what makes Brown special. His speed. It’s been said that Brown can run a 4.3-second 40-yard dash.
“This is my last (year) so I’m taking it differently now than I have with any other ones. Just coming in confident and getting our chemistry down with Spencer (Rattler), he’s gonna be special this year as well.”

It’s hard to imagine that with that type of speed, and a year of working with Rattler already, that we don’t see the Gamecocks take advantage of it more this season.
“I think (Rattler is) locked in. He’s not worried about proving people wrong. I think this year is more about himself. Just making sure he’s ready and making sure his mind is ready for this year. It’s scary man. Listen, Spencer is locked in and I think this year is gonna be really special for him. I think he’s gonna get back to that Heisman candidate level and I’m excited to be one of his wide outs. He’s gonna throw that thing crazy this year.”
