Video Breakdown: DB Cameron Upshaw commits to South Carolina
Just two weeks ago, I asked former South Carolina captain Shaq Wilson what made some of those Gamecock teams so dominate during the greatest four-year stretch in USC history, from 2009-13. His answer? South Carolina was able to steal talent from the state of Florida.
On a day that already saw the Gamecocks have two commitments from the Sunshine State go public with their decision, another Florida product went on to make it a third.
That third being three-star defensive back Cameron Upshaw who shared the news via Twitter at five on Sunday evening.
As I mentioned before, Upshaw joins fellow Florida natives Kelton Henderson and Connor Cox, who went public with this commitment to the Gamecocks earlier on Sunday and that can’t be said enough. Why?
Well, between Florida State and Florida, Upshaw had visited the Florida schools seven times. Prior to this weekend, he had only visited USC once for an unofficial back in January.

“The amount of time they spent with me. It wasn’t just about football,” Upshaw told Gamecock Central. “They really set out a whole plan with me academically to keep me straight academically when I get here. Then sports too… They showed my family crazy love, and they loved it. That was good.”
While USC likes Upshaw as a safety, Torrian Gray isn’t closing the door for the possibility of Upshaw playing either corner or nickel because of the speed he has.
