Video Breakdown: Former Florida TE Nick Elksnis commits to South Carolina
The transfer portal will take but if you’re patient enough, it’ll give back as well. For South Carolina, it’s giving back at a position where they need to add some depth at heading 2023.
On Sunday, former Florida tight end Nick Elksnis announced his commitment to the Gamecocks. Standing at 6-foot-6, 250 pounds, the Jacksonville, FL native took an unofficial visit to South Carolina on Thursday. That visit eventually turned into an official visit with Elksnis staying a little bit longer. According to Gamecock Central’s Wes Mitchell, Elksnis was the first Welcome Home tweet from Shane Beamer on Thursday.

A former 4-star prospect, the tight end spent the past two seasons at Florida. Appearing in 16 games in his first two years, he mainly played on special teams this past season and still has three years of eligibility remaining. He plans on enrolling into South Carolina in January, which will give him a great opportunity to get accumulated quicker.

As I mentioned, Elksnis had a big role on special teams during his time at Florida. One thing that stood out was what he told Gamecock Central. “I hope to be able to bring whatever they need,” Elksnis said. “I’ve already been talking to special teams coordinator (Pete Lembo). I’m looking forward to having a big role on special teams. I’m looking forward to blocking (and I’m) looking forward to catching touchdowns. I’m really coming to South Carolina because there’s so much opportunity for me to do a lot. I would definitely say in the past year or so, I’ve gotten a lot better at blocking. I don’t have a problem sticking my face in there and I also look forward to running routes.”

Elksnis also added having the opportunity to stay in the SEC and play Florida every year was quote, huge and a no brainer.
