We’ll start with three-star athlete Tyshawn Russell. Standing at just shy of 6-0 tall, 170 pounds, Russell has been recruited to play wide receiver for the Gamecocks. Ranked as the 29th top prospect out of Pennsylvania for the class of 2023, he chose the Gamecocks over Virginia Tech, Central Michigan and Maine.
Russell praised USC wide receivers coach Justin Stepp but he also mentioned his rapport with newly hired Gamecocks offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains. Russell told Gamecock Central’s Wes Mitchell, “That’s a great guy too, I love being around him. He’s always busting a joke and stuff around me and he loves me. He kept telling me when I come up here he’s going to use me a lot. He loves me. He wants me to be that impact in their offense.”

Next up is transfer running back Mario Anderson. Anderson shined for three seasons at Division II Newberry College where he accumulated over 3,300 yards rushing and 35 rushing touchdowns. His play earned him First-Team All-American honors as well. It also led him to be named a finalists for the Harlon Hill Trophy, which is the DII equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.

Listed at 5-9, 210 pounds, Anderson still has two years of eligibility remaining due to the 2020 COVID-19 season.
Last up, at least for now, is transfer Nick Gargiulo. The 6-5, 290 offensive lineman was a captain last season at Yale, where he’s played ball the past five years. Due to the 2020 COVID-19 season, Gargiulo has one year of eligibility remaining. While at Yale, he played for Tony Reno, who is the father of Gamecocks 2024 quarterback commit Dante Reno.
With USC losing tons of experience on the O-Line, adding a player with Gargiulo’s experience, plus smarts, is a much welcomed addition.
