Video Breakdown: JUCO DL Jerome Simmons commits to South Carolina

Since Shane Beamer arrived in Columbia, South Carolina has really focused on beefing up their defensive line. With already some talented players set to be on the Gamecocks D-Line next season, USC is adding another from the JUCO ranks.
6-foot-4, 333-pound defensive line Jerome Simmons has committed to the South Carolina. A native of Bamberg, SC, Simmons comes to USC after playing at Highland Community College in Kansas the past two years. The On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average of all four major recruiting services, has Simmons listed as as a three-star prospect. He’s additionally ranked by the metric as the nation’s 2nd-best defensive line prospect in junior college and the 15th-best overall JUCO prospect for the 2024 class.

In two seasons in the JUCO ranks, he complied 50 tackles in 17 games. He also had 11 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, two pass deflections, a forced fumble and an interception. That’s right. The big fella had an interception in his final game of the season in 2023 and returned is 24 yards. So size and a little bit of speed for a guy that big.
Simmons chooses the Gamecocks over a handful of offers including Georgia, Coastal Carolina, Charlotte, Louisiana, and Western Kentucky.
