Video Breakdown: Transfer RB Oscar Adaway commits to South Carolina
The transfer portal will take but if you’re patient enough, it’ll give back as well. For South Carolina, it’s giving back to another position where they’ll gladly welcome some more depth and experience before heading into 2024.
Former North Texas running Oscar Adaway III has committed to the Gamecocks. Ranked as the No. 15 running back in the transfer portal, according to the On3 Industry transfer portal rankings, Adaway stands at 5-11, 219 pounds. Despite suffering an ACL injury at the start of fall camp in 2021, he ranks fifth all-time in program history for the Mean Green with 1,935 career rushing yards. This past season he rushed for 738 yards and six touchdowns, while averaging six yards per carry. He also had 14 catches for 89 yards.

A dynamic back, Adaway described his game to Gamecock Central recruiting insider Wes Mitchell as being able to be a bruiser while also being able to make an impact as a pass catcher, both out of the backfield and while lined up in the slot or on the perimeter as a wide out. He also shared that the staff likes what he’s been able to do in pass protection.

Adaway wasted no time getting to know South Carolina’s staff after taking a visit to USC just days after entering the transfer portal. That’s something that was certainly welcomed by Shane Beamer and Gamecocks with the departure of Mario Anderson to to the transfer portal and Dakereon Joyner, who exhausted his eligibility in 2023. As of today, he joins a running back room that features just two scholarship backs – Djay Braswell and JuJu McDowell.
Matthew Fuller, a four-star running back for the class of 2024, has verbally committed to the Gamecocks. The staff is also heavily pursuing Arkansas transfer Raheim “Rocket” Sanders and class of 2024 four-star running back Daniel Hill.
