What a different a week makes. With the departure of two running backs this offseason, including one to the transfer portal just days ago, South Carolina has completely flipped their running back room. Yes, the ‘Rocket’ has landed in Columbia, SC.
6-foot-2, 242-pound running back Rahiem ‘Rocket’ Sanders is expected to commit to Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks. A former Arkansas running back, Sanders is considered the No.2 back in the transfer portal according to On3.

The news comes just days after Sanders took an official visit to South Carolina where he not only had a chance to meet USC’s staff but he was also able to reconnect with a pair of his former Razorback assistant coaches who are now working in Columbia.
Offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains spent two seasons at Arkansas as a tight ends coach, which overlapped with part of Sanders’ time in Fayetteville. Sanders, who was more of a wide receiver/athlete recruit out of high school, was also originally recruited to the Hogs by then-wide receivers coach Justin Stepp, who came to South Carolina in 2021.

Sanders was a monster in 2022 rushing for 1,443 yards and ten touchdowns. He also had 271 yards on 28 receptions and two scores. Injuries and a new offense kept Rocket from taking off the same way in 2023 but don’t let that fool you. Again, there’s a reason why he’s considered the No.2 running back in the transfer portal according to On3.
Sanders joins North Texas transfer running back Oscar Adaway III as the second back to transfer to South Carolina this offseason. Adaway, a 5-11, 219-pound versatile running back announced his commitment to the Gamecocks on Tuesday night. He was the first of two #WelcomeHome posts from Shane Beamer that day.
