The Paul Mainieri era is officially underway at South Carolina.

On Thursday, the Gamecocks newest baseball coach, and the 31st in program history, was introduced in a press conference. During that time period, the media had a chance to hear from not only Mainieri but also Director of Athletics Ray Tanner and assistant coaches Monte Lee and Terry Rooney.

In the video above, GamecockCentral’s Jack Veltri and I breakdown our thoughts from some of the biggest takeaways from Mainieri’s press conference. Hear soundbites from not only Mainieri but Tanner and Lee as well.

Some of the talking points include:

– Why “winning the press conference” is important in this era of college athletics and why we believe Mainieri was able to do just that.

– How Mainieri plans to attack the transfer portal and NIL as he learns more about each. When Mainieri last coached in 2021, the transfer portal wasn’t what it is now while NIL didn’t become legal until 2021.

– How high expectations is something Mainieri is used to and his message to South Carolina fans who expect to win.
