Video: Dawn Staley leaning on veterans to uplift 'trust babies'
It certainly wasn’t the fourth quarter finish South Carolina wanted but at the end of the day, survive and advance.
With South Carolina holding off Ole Miss 61-51 to advance to their seventh SEC Tournament Championship in eight years, Dawn Staley is leaning on the upperclassmen to help the younger players out when they take to the floor on Sunday.
“I mean, the core group of our players have been here. They’ve experienced it,” said Staley. “They’ll be ready. It’s just the ones that haven’t been here before that really don’t understand how hard it is because they’ve — it’s like trust babies. They’re born into money. Some of our youngsters were born into what we’ve been able to do over the past couple of years in our league. When you haven’t really — when you don’t know, you just kind of assume and just think that, oh, this is how it is.”
