The former four-star defensive tackle from Hammond School (Columbia, S.C.) has been plagued by injuries throughout his college career. In 2020, ankle injuries held him back from cracking a spot in the defensive tackle rotation. This past season, after starting the first two games of the year, he battled a leg injury that cost him some time.
“Through the first injury, I don’t wanna say I lost my faith at all but I was definitely struggling. I was negative and mad at the world. The second one, I just trusted in God. I knew that he had a plan for me. I knew that this wan’t the end and that it was just a bump in the road. Two, just hitting the training room. When things go bad, how can you make them good? With the departure of Zacch Pickens, having Huntley on the field healthy this season will be critical for South Carolina. While limited to just 25 games played in his first three seasons, when healthy, Huntley has proven to be a key contributor to the Gamecocks defensive success. Despite last year’s injury, Huntley finished with a new season-high in starts (3), tackles (21), and passes deflected (2). He also recorded his first sack.
“I wish things would’ve been different but at the end of the day, God has a plan. Things like that, it’s part of the game and it’s part of life. Things are gonna happen that you don’t want to happen. I just gotta take it how it is and just keep moving. All that stuff is in the past and I’m just focused on the now.”
