A day after Shane Beamer sent out two #WelcomeHome tweets, one of those commitments has already come forward. And he comes from a place where South Carolina has started to have a lot of success when it comes to recruiting.

Three-star offensive tackle Mike Williams has committed to the Gamecocks. The decision comes just days after Williams was in Columbia to watch South Carolina’s spring game. Which just shows the impact Saturday had on him. Standing at 6-5, 310 pounds, the Maryland native choses South Carolina over a long list of Power Five schools including the University of Miami, Virginia Tech, Michigan, and Southern Cal.

We’ve talked about Beamer and this staff building a pipeline to the DMV area, especially within the state of Maryland. Well, Williams’ commitment further proves that as he was teammates at Charles Herbert Flowers High School with South Carolina freshman EDGE Desmond Umeozulu. Umeozulu has been on USC’s campus since January. Having an extra set of eyes and ears already there for Williams certainly only helped the Gamecocks in landing the offensive line.

While listed as an offensive tackle, Williams has the ability to play guard as well. His physicality is one of the strong points of his game, which has allowed him to excel when it comes to run blocking.

Rated as the 35th top overall prospect from the state Maryland, he becomes the first Maryland product to commit to South Carolina’s class of 2024 and the fourth from the state going back to the 2023 class. But according to team sources, don’t expect Williams to be the last Maryland commitment for this year’s recruiting class for the Gamecocks.

Heading into Wednesday, South Carolina ranked No.5 in the nation for this year’s recruiting class. The last time they finished anywhere near that was back in 2007 when they finished seventh.
