Video: Shane Beamer explains what's different this year for South Carolina as they begin spring practices
With practice No.1 for South Carolina in the books after Tuesday morning, the focus is looking forward. But, sometimes looking back can help paint a clearer picture as to how far this program has come.
A yea ago, Shane Beamer was preparing for not only his first-year as head coach at South Carolina but his first-year as a head coach.
“I remember going out there, day one of last year, and having to scream and yell about finishing plays and running to the ball and all that stuff,” explain Beamer, following Tuesday’s practice. “Not that we didn’t have to today but guys know what to expect and that’s the biggest thing. Last year everything we were doing was for the very first time.”
Expectations from the coaching staff aside, Beamer has been pleased with how quickly the early enrollees and transfers have fit in.
“The new guys that we have brought in, they’ve forced everybody around them to elevate their games even more so as well, both on and off the field.”
The Gamecocks will hold a walk-thru on Wednesday before returning to the practice field Thursday for practice No.2 . Offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield and defensive coordinator Clayton White will meet with the media Wednesday beginning at 12:30 p.m.
