Video: South Carolina begins testing new lights at Williams-Brice
There’s still three months to go until South Carolina kicks off a new football season. But even in June, we’re starting to get a small taste of what to expect this fall at Williams-Brice Stadium.
The new state of the art LED lights at Williams-Brice were getting some test runs on Thursday night. When I arrived around 11 p.m. this is what I saw from right outside the stadium. (See video below)
One question I’ve seen a lot since posting this video is whether or not all the lights have the capability of turning garnet. The answer to that is yes, and not just garnet but many colors. I wouldn’t put too much stock into the display just from this video, since they’re still getting a feel for it.
It was only two weeks ago that workers began to bring down over 300 of the old lights of the home of the Gamecocks. They were replaced with these brand new state of the art LED stadium lights. The LED stadium light upgrade is part of South Carolina’s next phase in a series of renovations to Williams-Brice Stadium.
According to Joe Corpai, project manager of Ephesus Cooper Lighting Solutions, his team installed just over 250 of those lights. These lights have the capabilities of changing to practically any color you want.

In addition to the lights, the renovations include expansion of the west main concourse, new elevators and new ribbon boards throughout the stadium.
