Video: South Carolina women's soccer media day 2023
Shelley Smith enters her 23rd season as coach of South Carolina women’s soccer. On Wednesday, she was joined at media day by her husband and associate head coach Jamie Smith and nearly a dozen student-athletes.
Last season, USC went 14-4-5 and reached the NCAA Sweet 16. For a third straight season, captain Catherine Barry led the team in goals (10), points (27), and shots (91). She also led the team in assist (7) and game-winning goals (6).

This season, USC enters the year ranked 12th in the nation. Ironically, that’s the same spot they were at this point a year ago. Returning a pair of fifth-year seasons, as well as a graduate transfer, the core group this team returns following winning the SEC Tournament. They’ll travel to Clemson for their season opener on Sunday, August 20.

With Smith at the helm, South Carolina has gone 293-133-54 (.664). In that span, she’s won a total of five SEC Championships with 15 NCAA Tournament appearances.
