Walk-on tight end put on scholarship by South Carolina
After Tuesday’s practice, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer officially placed sophomore tight end Maurice Brown II on scholarship. The news was confirmed in a video posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, by the team.
“I appreciate his toughness because he got banged up in that game and was on the dang bike the whole time trying to stay loose. So it’s stuff like that and don’t get tired of doing what’s right. I appreciate your toughness. I know you ran 21 miles an hour in that game. Your ass better be running 22 miles an hour to the Bursar’s Office today to ask for a refund on the tuition you paid this semester,” Beamer told Brown, giving him the news in the video.
Brown originally joined the Gamecocks as a walk-on in January 2023. He saw action in each of the final 11 games of the regular season and made one tackle against Texas A&M on special teams.
