What Lamont Paris said after South Carolina's blowout win over Radford on Sunday
Following a 74-48 win over Radford, South Carolina head coach Lamont Paris spoke to the media about the game on Sunday. Here’s what he had to say.
— Good effort by the team in the second half. These games are hard with the proximity to the holiday break. These guys have been anticipating and planning. When you’ve got them leaving, they’ve got a lot to juggle. Felt they were a little disjointed in the first half. But they got back together in the second half and played a lot better.
— When it was all said and done, he wanted to come out with a one-point smashing victory. But they clearly did better than that. Glad they put it all together.
— There’s no way South Carolina should’ve given up 36 points in the first half. Radford did a great job of rebounding. They had to get the defense going. He felt they could do a good job against this team on the defensive end. They decided in the second half they were going to pick it up in that area and they did.
— As a coach, he doesn’t really think about the adjustments to get the start of the game to be better. You hope the guys do the things they do in the second half early to change these slow starts. They missed some shots in the first half. Making shots always helps. But the start and making adjustments to change that isn’t a part of his equation.

— Nick Pringle got fouled some in the North Florida game. He thinks he made three of the eight free throws in that game. It’s hard to do laser surgery on someone’s shot at that point. But there were some small things he saw in shot that he thought could help him with his rhythm and having more confidence.
— After that game, he walked up to Pringle and said there were a couple of tweaks they could make or he could stick with what he’s been doing and rep it hard. Pringle was willing to make a change. He was committed to being a better free throw shooter. They video taped his shots and went frame by frame with what his rhythm looked like and how long it was taking him to release the ball. He didn’t have to accept that evaluation but he did and he’s worked hard at it. Pringle went 10-for-10 on free throws today.
— Cam Scott is making good progress, especially on the defensive end. He’s growing a lot as a player. Scott hadn’t been getting as many reps during practice. Full disclosure, Morris Ugusuk usually gets most of his reps on the scout team. There’s a regular team with 5-6 guys who play a lot during the games and a scout team. Started to get Scott more in that rotation of scout team to help him out, which has been working. Happy with his progress. He’s a very good listener. Very smart basketball player.
