Following an 81-67 loss to LSU on Tuesday, South Carolina head coach Lamont Paris spoke with play-by-play announcer Derek Scott in a postgame interview on 107.5 The Game. Below is a summary of what Paris had to say.

— Jamarii Thomas was being aggressive. He shot a couple three-pointers off the ball screen. He had good energy. You need to be able to take something away from these losses that helps build. Basically referencing his 23-point game as an example of this.

— South Carolina wasn’t particularly effective around the basket. Nick Pringle especially but also Collin Murray-Boyles at times went through his struggles. LSU was blitzing the ball out of Murray-Boyles’ hands when he got the ball around the basket in one-on-one situations.

— The performance component for South Carolina was not great tonight.

— Paris brings up the question of what are you to do when South Carolina trims the lead down to single digits then it goes right back up to being in blowout territory. He knows he can’t play on the court anymore. He’d like to. They have to be able to make normal plays. Some of the mistakes they make are inexplicable.

— They were coming off two straight games where they had nine turnovers in each game. That’s what’s bewildering to the old coach at times is that one day it’s turnovers, one day it’s rebound, another day you can’t make a shot. Put simply, he’s elaborating on the fact that South Carolina has lost games in more than one way during this 13-game losing streak. Consistency is still so important in this game.

— He’s done with giving his opinions on officiating at this point. He also makes the point that he doesn’t want that to seem like a reason why South Carolina isn’t winning games. But he’s just not going to say too much about it. People can tell where he stands. He’s not changing that. They have to be better at overcoming hurdles that present themselves to them. LSU was aggressive. They took the ball from South Carolina at times. They’re good at taking the ball from you apparently.
