Following a 66-63 loss to No. 2 Auburn on Saturday, South Carolina head coach Lamont Paris spoke to the media after the game. Below is a summary of what he had to say.

— Thought South Carolina played really hard with a good level of physicality and aggression and energy and spirit and emotion. Some of the basketball things that happened that were positive were a byproduct of those factors.

— Really happy with what the game looked like, what the body of work ultimately looked like. Would’ve loved to come out of here with a wn today.

— The reality is that you have to turn the page and get to the next thing. It’s such a good league playing in the SEC. the biggest thing is can you turn the page? If South Carolina had lost by 27, it would be harder to turn the page for a young person. But with the performance today, there’s a lot of good things that they did. Growth mandates that you respond properly moving forward.

— Thought they did a good job on defense today. There were a couple of times Auburn scored on plays that they ran. They choose to run the plays that work. You can see some of that. South Carolina did a better job in its rule following. Significantly better job of that.

— From an energy standpoint, just based on the totality of what they did out there today in general, they’re really close to being where they want to be. You’re going to win on most of the days where you perform as a shooter. That can get the job done with everything else they did.

— Their bigger guys are relatively mobile. At face value, they’re mobile guys. That allows them to do things defensively. It might limit them a little bit on offense. But he thought the big lineup was good for them today. It helped them from a rebound and physicality standpoint.

— It’s amazing how many times you can emphasize something and then a guy goes out in a game and does it. They had spent some time with attacking downhill, making strong moves towards the basket and then what the finish looked like at the end of it. They emphasized that a lot. You could see that a lot in Collin Murray-Boyles’ game today. He was very powerful, which is a word he reserves usually. They need him to be aggressive. He’s better suited to be a guy that’s initiating offense and being aggressive.

— They played stronger today. The message was that you’ve got to come out and be aggressive. The more aggressive, the more you find yourself in a good position. They emphasized that a lot. And they saw a significant improvement in that area.
