Following a 65-60 win over South Carolina on Saturday, Mississippi State head coach Chris Jans spoke to the media after the game. Below is a summary of what he had to say.

— When you’re in that position up by 14, you’re talking to the guys about keeping the foot on the gas. South Carolina was very resilient and the lead dissipated. But Claudell Harris’ three pointer late in the game was huge. And when you go into overtime, you never know. A lot of people in the gym probably thought that was going to be a victory for USC. But credit to his guys for getting the win.

— South Carolina’s ball screen defense was a little more aggressive. When they played their zone, that was the biggest difference going up against them. That was a big reason why MSU’s lead shrunk down. MSU knew that could be a possibility. Kudos to Lamont Paris for plugging that defense in as it changed the game.

— Has a great belief in Josh Hubbard. He will roll with him for as long as he can. It’s a luxury knowing he’s going to knock down the free throws that he did in overtime. Some people are expecting video game numbers from him. But no one has more confidence in Hubbard than himself. Just glad he’s with Mississippi State.

— Can’t really complain about your stretches because everyone has them. When you get into the SEC play, every night it’s high level, competitive battles. It’s just part of the deal with playing a tough schedule. Got Alabama and Missouri up next. It just never ends. This game wasn’t a must win for them but this was an opportunity to get their second road win, which was important to them.
