What Paul Mainieri said after South Carolina's 7-2 victory over Queens University

South Carolina baseball head coach Paul Mainieri and the Gamecocks picked up a 7-2 win over Queens to improve to 5-0 on the season. Mainieri spoke to the media after the game. Below is a summary of what he had to say.
– Fans might think he’s crazy for playing today’s game but they played really well in all phases through tough conditions. The weather played a factor on both sides of the ball but there were a couple hits that had the potential to be a home run on a warmer day. The team showed poise in the eighth when Queens scored and played good defense to get the win.
– Believes they have good depth in the bullpen. Terry Rooney has done a great job of preparing pitchers and strengthening the bullpen. Every pitcher on the mound did well and it was good to get guys exposure early on.

– Playing in tough conditions prepares players not only for games down the road but also professional baseball. Not every game is going to have perfect conditions and you have to learn to adapt and play around it. Thought the team handled the weather conditions tremendously.
– Accountability and expectations have allowed the team to remain poised through the adversity and challenges they have faced in the first five games. Close games help define your season and being tested helps build confidence.
– Jackson Soucie had a great start sitting around 88-89 MPH. He missed a good bit of the fall but came back healthy after winter break. Still learning and developing but had some big pitches in key moments throughout his appearance.
– Wanted to get a lot of guys on the mound to break the seal and get innings in early on. Put Roman Kimball in to close to get him some pitches.
