What Shane Beamer said about Jacksonville State on Tuesday

– Beamer begins press conference by reminding people that Jacksonville State beat FSU two years ago and they still have a lot of those players on this year’s team. A team who is 7-2.
– Jacksonville State is one of the leaders in the nation in explosive runs. Can’t let them get going on the ground.
– Excited to be back at Williams-Brice Stadium. First noon game at home since last year.
– He’s not happy about where they are right now (2-6) but trying to find the good, he’s grateful that they have the opportunity to showcase the talents they have to their fans this weekend.
– Saw the comments Dakereon Joyner made earlier today that he relayed to his teammates about “finding some joy.” Loves his mentality and knows that’s what this team needs right now as they battle through adversity. Need to execute and coach better.

– INJURIES: Trai Jones is out. “Everyone else is questionable who is banged up.” Juice Wells is getting closer but doesn’t want to rule him out quite yet.
– Beamer says that when he met with players when he got to South Carolina three years ago he said that he heard that guys were dreading coming into this building. Beamer says he’ll be damned if that’s the case in this program, even through the lows. “You’d think we were getting ready to play for the Super Bowl today if you were out at practice…”

– It’s been a challenging year. The last time he’s been part of something like this was during his Mississippi State years as an assistant. He was in a similar situation at Virginia Tech when they were 3-5 in 2015 and needed to find a way to finish strong, and they did. Went 3-1 down the stretch and went on to finish 7-6 with a bowl win.
– Doesn’t want players to talk about being bowl eligible. Is it a goal? Of course. But it’s about beating Jacksonville State and doing what they need to do in order to improve. DQ Smith didn’t win his appeal on his targeting call. Found out late Sunday night. This means Smith will not be eligible to play in the first half of the Jacksonville State.
