South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer met with the media Tuesday, as he does every week during the regular season, to discuss this week’s matchup with Kentucky.

Below is a quick summary of what Beamer had to say about the matchup with the Wildcats.

– Beamer is confident that the environment will “be crazy” with the game being at night. Needs the fans to be great, as well as the team on Saturday

– Calls Mark Stoops’ teams physical and well-coached. Points out their four loses in their last five games have been against some really good competition

– INJURY REPORT: Trey Knox practiced today, Trai Jones is OUT, and Dakereon Joyner is DOUBTFUL

– Each week is different from a defensive standpoint. They’ve used the 3-3-5 since the Texas A&M game to give them a different look/speed. Have had a lot of success the past two years against Kentucky

– Beamer said when it comes to redshirting, you just have to be honest with players. With injuries piling up for USC, there are several players who might have to burn their redshirt to help the team now. Said you have to think about about what’s best for the player and program in the long haul as well as for the individual

– Has been very pleased with the growth of RB Djay Braswell. With Juju McDowell out and Dakereon Joyner likely out as well, Braswell is in line to see an increase workload. Braswell has appeared in three games this season.

– Beamer asked about the Miss. State job that recently opened up. Because of his connections with that program and area, he was asked if there’s any interest if MSU were to reach out to him. Said he loves Columbia and South Carolina is where he wants to be. Adds that they’re just getting started.

– Beamer says the energy has been great in practice all season, win or lose. Shares that they were more efficient and had less mistakes today at practice.

– Beamer said he doesn’t remember how he signed Bam Martin-Scott, but remembers watching the tape and seeing the raw athleticism. “He’s really fun to be around and it feels good to see him doing well.”

– At this time of the year, he just asked his coaches to be honest with him but wants them to be focused on Kentucky. Said if there’s a better situation for them he wants to help them, but their full attention is on Kentucky

– Doesn’t know what Sam Pittman’s plans are at Arkansas but he had a conversation with Dowell Loggains and Loggains is very happy here

– Beamer asked if he’ll be brining sunglasses again to the stadium. Said his son has those glasses but he won’t be brining any. Added that last year was last year and they need to play well on Saturday.

– On Mario Anderson: “He’s tough and really talented.” Adds that he’s really grown without the ball in his hands… **a part of his game that Dowell Loggains has also mentioned.

– Keeps reminding the players to focus on what they need to do each day they’re in here. They know they have to win out in order to go bowling but they’re just worried about improving each day.
