Shane Beamer's postgame press conference following loss to Texas A&M

Here’s what Shane Beamer said after a 30-17 loss to Texas A&M on Saturday.

— Congratulates Texas A&M, who made enough plays to win. Calls it one of the great venues in all of college football.
— Told the team that there isn’t another team he’d rather coach. Played their freaking guts out.
— Injuries happened at the worst positions possible.
— Stayed in the fight, got it to a one-score game in the fourth quarter. But couldn’t get over the hump.
— It was fun watching the team play today. But too many fundamental mistakes happened today. Not a clean game.

— Proud of the defense for getting stops and keeping the team in the fight. Disappointed they couldn’t get a takeaway. Best front they’ve played all season and really good in the secondary.
— Showed the kind of team they can be. Hoping some of the guys who are banged up will be back next week.
— Knows Gamecock nation will turn out for the final four games of the year all at home. Needs an awesome crowd next week and coaches have to do a better job. Back to work tomorrow
— Trai Jones has a high ankle sprain doesn’t know the prognosis. Tree wasn’t 100%. It was going to be an emergency situation if he had to come in. Trey Knox has a hamstring injury. Hopefully hell be okay. XL got his ankle rolled up so he wasn’t out there for the final drive.
— They weren’t going to win by letting A&M playing 80 plays. They needed to find a way to shorten the game and move the chains. But when you have three intentional groundings, it hurts bad. Changes the game. Rattler expected somebody to be there on those penalties called with his throws. Tough to overcome in that position.
— Did a little bit more personnel wise on defense. Got Jaron Willis and Bam Scott in there. Haven’t done a great job of creating negative plays. So they wanted to mix it up. Created an issue for A&M early. Though Nick Barrett did a good job. Have to win their one on ones in the second half.
— Told Max Johnson he is tough as nails for getting hit so many times.
— OD Fortune was suspended for the first half on athletic department policy rule he broke.

— Nyck Harbor is a great competitor. Enjoys playing the game. Told the team to show how much they enjoy playing. Did that in practice all week and in the game, Nyck included. Felt awful about the drop. Spencer went over and told him he’d come right back to him, which he did. Out there early catching balls before every practice. Told Harbor’s dad that he had one of the most impressive one on one sessions during practice this week. Told Harbor he’d make a ton of plays before the game started.
— Nobody runs the ball against this defense. Wasn’t going to throw hands up and say they can’t run the ball. Told Loggains they need more carries for the running backs. Have to keep the clock moving. Can’t do that to the defense. Wanted to come into today and get Anderson 20+ carries. Some of those ended up being RPOs. Told Anderson he felt he was so close to breaking one for a touchdown.
— Bryan Thomas dislocated his finger in the first half. But he’s fine now.
— Jalon Kilgore continues to work, which led to him catching punts today. It’s something he was doing in practice this week.
— Still figuring out what they’re going to do with Vicari Swain with his redshirt.
— Thought Judge Collier did a good job. Knew they needed to help those DBs out and not keep A&M out there for 80 plays. Collier did a good job in OD’s place in the first half. Keenan Nelson had to come in for DQ Smith after the targeting ejection.
— There’s no question all the freshmen will be better because of this season. Was prepared to play Shivers today at some point.
— In his mind, Beamer doesn’t believe these guys are freshmen anymore. Will look back at the end of the year and reevaluate everything.
— This year should be no different with four home games to go and playing better down the stretch.
— For Willis, you have to be consistent on and off the field, Beamer says. Not that Willis was bad but inconsistent a little bit. Went to Willis on Sunday and told him about a package they put in place for him.
