What Shane Beamer said after South Carolina's blowout win over Wofford
Following South Carolina’s 56-12 win over Wofford on Saturday, head coach Shane Beamer spoke to the media about the team’s performance. Here’s what he had to say.
— Fun way to finish out the home season. Thanks the fans. It’s pretty to sell out every home game this year. Doesn’t take that for granted. Doesn’t ever take Williams-Brice Stadium for granted.
— Awesome night to have the Salute to Troops game. Has so much gratitude for the men and women who give us the freedom to live in the greatest country. Heard the crowd to start to chant “USA USA USA”. Got chills during that moment.
— There’s a lot of great things going on with Gamecock athletics. Points out he did give Ray Tanner a game ball for his last home game as AD. Said he wants to bring Tanner on as an assistant on the staff in the future. Tanner jokingly says, “How much does that pay?”

— Much respect to Wofford. Knew they’d come in here and battle. They did a great job coming in here. Thought the start to the game was awful. Didn’t communicate the right way on the first play of the game. Points out a lot of the early issues in this game.
— There was no coming into the locker room and raising hell during halftime. They talked about why the score was only 21-9 and why it was on them to turn it around. Said the offense was going to go right down the field and score and then they needed to play like Gamecock football after that. Proud of their response after halftime to play the way they did. They were a MASH unit out there from an injury standpoint. Got a great group of young men. Excited for them.
— Injury updates: Jared Brown should be fine. He had a little bit of a hand injury last week. He’ll be fine for next weekend. Dre Jacobs, not sure about. Hamstring. Josh Simon: they’ll see and same with Michael Smith.
— Dalevon Campbell has been awesome. They gave him a game ball after the game. He’s worked really hard in practice. He’s doing a great job. The wide receiver room looks completely different now versus how it looked in September. Campbell is a perfect example of that.
— It was emotional today with senior day. Those are some great young men. Has a lot of gratitude for that special group. These are some really good players that won’t be back next year. Happy for them to finish their careers out with a win at home.
— They were ready for the fakes on special teams from Wofford. They talked about all the things they did on special teams in their Tuesday meeting. They were clearly not ready enough. The fake punt was about the same as the one Notre Dame ran on them in the Gator Bowl two years ago. Tonight they were in safe defense to be ready for the fake. But Wofford did a good job of setting off the edge. Just didn’t defend it well enough. On the fake field goal touchdown that got called back, as soon as Wofford got to the line of scrimmage, he knew something was up. They were in position but didn’t defend it well. He didn’t deliver the message well enough on Tuesday. Doesn’t blame Wofford for letting it all out. Bad coaching starting with him.
— It says a lot about the people in this program that Spencer Rattler wanted to come back to Columbia this weekend. It was awesome to see him.

— Winning five games in a row is a testament to the program. They were 3-3 after Alabama and there was no panic or pointing fingers. To be where they are right now is really awesome. Credit to the leadership of this team. Getting better is something they pride themselves on.
— To be determined if this is one of the best seasons he’s had in coaching with two guaranteed games to go. It’s rewarding because of how last season went and how the guys have responded. It’s rewarding because of the players who decided to come back after last year. They all doubled down on this program and wanted to leave this place better than they did in 2023. They knew they weren’t that far off. So happy for the guys having as much success as they have had this year.
— Not going to go home and start dissecting Clemson yet. He’s going to enjoy this one. It’ll be great to have two ranked teams going up against each other. It should be that way every year. Has a ton of respect for Dabo Swinney. They’ll get back to work tomorrow and learn from this game. There’s a lot to clean up. It’ll be a normal Saturday night. Can’t wait to get to work tomorrow.

— Really haven’t talked about the future at all. Not naive and knows his players are hearing about the playoff talk. It’s cliche but they try to go 1-0 every week. They’re having a good November right now. It can be a great November if they finish out strong. Nothing matters if you don’t win football games. After that, they’ll have done all they can.
— Getting Luke Doty in at the start came down to the tight end situation. They were going to play more four wide receiver sets. Doty was essentially the guy to replace the tight end in what would usually be a three receiver set with one tight end. That’s why he started tonight.
— Knocks on wood while being asked about how well LaNorris Sellers has been playing. What a player he is. He’s just continuing to get better and gaining confidence. He continues to be a great player week in and week out.
— Feels like they took a step in the right direction this week. It was a challenge with the injury situation this week. But because of that, they got better because they’ve expanded their offense. It makes things more difficult on Clemson to prepare for the next game. From that standpoint, they got better.
