What Shane Beamer said after South Carolina's loss to Florida

South Carolina couldn’t get things done on the road, losing 38-6 to Florida on Saturday night.

With the loss, South Carolina is now 6-4 overall and 4-4 in the SEC.

Here are some the highlights from Beamer’s post game press conference:

-Beamer said that the team was “nowhere near good enough tonight in any phase.”

-“Completely unacceptable, disappointment to say the least.”

-Beamer on where things went wrong to start: “We couldn’t stop them or stay on the field…they scored the first three times they touched the ball and we couldn’t stay on the field.”

-Beamer said as “ugly as the first half was” he was glad they got some points before the half

-Beamer said it’s “completely unacceptable” they started the second half off with three straight turnovers. 

-Added he genuinely hadn’t seen anything like that since it happened when he was in high school
-“They lead the SEC in turnover margin…gotta be better at protecting the football.”

-Beamer said they put the defense in “tough positions” and credit to them for fighting

-“Team fought their asses off…need to coach and play better.”

-Beamer on turnovers to start the second half: “They do a good job of getting the ball out…we’ve gotta be better at protecting it, didn’t see anything specific but just need to be better at protecting the ball.”

-“I thought Florida did a really good job of tacking…we lost some 1 on 1 battles on the perimeter with ball carries.”

-Beamer said since he was fresh off the game he couldn’t give an exact reason the first three drives went the way they did. Added he’ll have an answer Sunday after going through the tape.

-Injury update with MarShawn Lloyd: “Same injury, contusion/deep thigh bruise…He practiced Wednesday and looked really good, went full speed and the next day it had swollen up.”

-Injury update on Christian Beal-Smith: “Banged up in Vandy game…wasn’t able to progress to the point where we wanted to give him carries.”

-Biggest concern on O going forward: “Not turning the ball over…not good enough on third down…need to sustain drives.”

-Said last staff meeting w OC/DC/STC that if they stay on the field for 80 plays they won’t be able to play well because of the lack of depth

-Florida ended with 79 plays

-“Defense needs to get off the field, can’t give up that many yards.”

-Beamer on Spencer Rattler’s performance: “Spencer has to play better, he couldn’t do anything about the fumbles.” 

-Added that they are “constantly about competition at QB and every other position” but that no one played well enough tonight.

-Sounds like there wasn’t a real thought to take him out from this ^^^

-Said South Carolina didn’t do a good job of tackling

-Beamer on execution vs game plan: “You get into pass protection issues w lack of depth at running back”

-On the defensive side of the ball: “Tyrese Ross, OD Fortune, other guys like that played meaningful snaps for the first time in a while” said that affected some play calls

-Beamer on if there was a thought to put Luke Doty in: “Luke is at a point where he has played in four games, wasn’t a thought of putting him in.”

-Beamer talked about how special teams was “awesome”

-“Fake punt was a great job of executing…great throw and catch and gave us a spark, play was put in against CLT and just hadn’t run it yet.”

-Said they didn’t execute the two point conversion thing like they wanted

-Kroeger had good punts

-Blocked two FG’s

-“Cam Smith was adamant about getting sent on FG block, we’d been telling them they were due”

-“Special teams was a positive but we weren’t good in all three phases,”

-Beamer said game plan didn’t go out the window out after the start
-“Couldn’t start the second half worse than how we did…tough to chip away after that”

-Wyatt Campbell, had a high ankle “deal”

-Vershon Lee was sick

-Battled the flu this week, had nine guys who missed one day of practice

-Brad Johnson, Boogie, Cam Smith were some of those guys.
