What Shane Beamer said during his Sunday night teleconference
Less than 24 hours after South Carolina opened the 2024 season with a win, head coach Shane Beamer spoke to the media in his weekly teleconference on Sunday. Here’s what he had to say.

— Offensive players of the game: Rocket Sanders, Josh Simon, Vershon Lee.
— Defensive players of the game: Jalon Kilgore, Kyle Kennard, Dylan Stewart.
— Special teams player of the game: Alex Herrera.
— Gamecock MVP was Yimi Rodriguez and the nutrition staff. Didn’t have any issues with cramping. Even with Saturday being hot, the players handled it really well.
— Scout offensive players of the week were Jawarn Howell and Ni Mansel.
— Scout defensive players of the week were Rondarius Porter (not Ronnie but his brother) and Buddy Mack.
— Scout special teams player of the week was Larry Scott.

— Played really hard. Ran the ball effectively. Realizes in college football sacks affect rushing yardage. When they called runs, they were successful.

— Biggest issue was missing shots downfield. Watch the effort and how physical the guys were. Had eight new starters. They settled into the game well.
— Defense was very active. Were able to generate pressure on the QB without bringing blitzes.
— pleased with the way Herrera kicked off and kicked field goals.
— Knows there’s a lot of teams feeling crappy after losing. Happy to be 1-0.
— There were some missed opportunities on offense. Was excited to see there are a lot of correctable things from watching the tape. They need all 11 on offense. This offense will continue to grow and getter each week.
