Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate! While South Carolina is preparing to take on arch rival Clemson this weekend, here are some things to be thankful for this year.

Spencer Rattler and Xavier Legette

It’s hard to imagine South Carolina football being where it is right now without these two. Rattler and Legette have proven to be the MVPs of this years team.

This year, Rattler has thrown for 3,074 yards with 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He’s taken a lot of hits, but his attitude has always been positive and never pointing fingers, which is what you want to see out of a quarterback and leader.

Then there’s Legette, who has become Rattler’s favorite target. With Juice Wells out for most of this year, the fifth-year receiver has taken massive strides in his game. Legette has caught 65 passes for 1,187 yards and seven touchdowns.

Undefeated basketball programs

Most probably expected Dawn Staley’s squad to be unbeaten at this point in the year. They’ve averaged more than 100 points per game so far to sit at 4-0. Pretty good, right?

Then there’s men’s basketball. Not many expected much from Lamont Paris in year two. South Carolina was picked to finish last in SEC. But so far, the Gamecocks are 5-0 with some gritty wins to show for it.

They’ve got plenty of talent and heart. There’s just a different vibe with this year’s team compared to last year. Just a better display of team basketball and playing as one.

Who knows how much longer both teams will be unbeaten for. But for right now, enjoy it while you can because it’s a lot of fun to watch.

Baseball moving in right direction

It’s well-documented South Carolina hit an all-time low in 2022. The Gamecocks finished under .500 for the first time since 1996. There were plenty of question marks heading into the next year.

But South Carolina flipped the switch in 2023 and took the college baseball world by notice, winning series after series. There were some bumps in the road, but the Gamecocks advanced to their first Super Regional since 2018.

The Gamecocks will have to replace a lot of pitching this upcoming season. But the lineup should mainly stay intact with names like Ethan Petry, Cole Messina, among others back.

Good times at Willy-B

The home atmosphere at Williams-Brice Stadium is unmatched. The press box was shaking throughout the Kentucky game last weekend. And that’s because Gamecock fans packed a punch and delivered in a big way.

Saturday against Clemson should be a night to remember. It’s going to be an electric atmosphere. But this will be the final home game of the season. So enjoy it while you can. It’s been a fun year.
