It’s never too early to start peeking at what South Carolina will be facing in non-conference play next season.

The Gamecocks are still in the midst of putting together a roster for next season but there are a few known games for next season already known for the 2022 non-conference season.

South Carolina already announced it will be playing in the Charleston Classic, the program’s multi-team event (MTE) this season.

The Classic will start Nov. 17 and will have games Thursday, Friday and Sunday with a break Saturday. That’s the same week South Carolina hosts Tennessee in football.

Matchups haven’t been announced yet, but the event will include the College of Charleston, Colorado State, Davidson, Furman, Old Dominion, Penn State and Virginia Tech.

The trio of Colorado State, Davidson and Virginia Tech all made the NCAA Tournament last season with Niko Medved (Colorado State) and Mike Young (Virginia Tech) having South Carolina ties.

Medved was the head coach at Furman before going out west. Young had an incredibly successful career at Wofford before moving onto the ACC.

All three of those teams finished inside of KenPom’s top 50. Two more were top 100 teams: Furman (74) and Penn State (88).

Outside of that, there are a few non-conference matchups known as well.

The Gamecocks have road games as part of home and homes with both UAB and Georgetown.

According to the D1Docket, South Carolina travels to Birmingham on Dec. 14 to take on Andy Kennedy’s Blazers, another tournament team from last season.

The return trip to Georgetown hasn’t had a date scheduled yet.

UAB finished last season with 27 wins, finished No. 51 in KenPom and won the Conference USA title before losing in the first round of the tournament. Georgetown won six games and finished No. 175 in KenPom.

South Carolina won both games last season.

D1 Docket is also reporting South Carolina will have games at home against Western Kentucky, Coastal Carolina and South Carolina State along with the annual rivalry game against Clemson.

The Docket is reporting the Western Kentucky game will take place on Dec. 22 with the SC State game a week later on Dec. 29.

With those, that’s eight games with a handful still remaining.

South Carolina is coming off an 18-13 year where the Gamecocks finished 9-9 in the SEC. They opted to move on from Frank Martin in the offseason, which means this schedule will be the first of the Lamont Paris era.
