When to watch South Carolina student-athletes in 2024 Summer Olympics
The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, are officially underway.
The Opening Ceremony of the Games took place at 7:30 p.m. local time (1:30 p.m. Eastern Time) on Friday, July 26. But some sports — specifically soccer, rugby, archery and handball — started a few days before.
Action from the Olympic Games will continue until the last medals are awarded on the event’s final day, which is Sunday, Aug. 11. All of that action will be broadcast on NBC’s affiliate television networks and available for streaming on Peacock.
Here’s when current and former South Carolina student-athletes are set to compete over the next few weeks.
*Note: All times listed in this story are in Eastern Standard Time. These times are also for live events only — reruns for some events will be broadcast at a later time.

Basketball
This year’s Olympic women’s basketball competition will be a Gamecock-heavy event, featuring the likes of A’ja Wilson, Laeticia Amihere and Shay Colley. Wilson will represent the United States, while Amihere and Colley are both on Canada’s roster.
The United States and Canada are two of 12 teams vying for a medal in this event. The 12 teams have been divided into three groups of four — the United States is in Group C and Canada is in Group B. Each team is guaranteed three matches in the group stage (also known as “pool play”).
USA Group Stage Schedule:
- July 29 vs. Japan (3:00 PM, USA Network)
- August 1 vs. Belgium (3:00 PM, USA Network)
- August 4 vs Germany (11:15 AM, USA Network)

- August 1 vs. Australia (7:30 AM, NBCOlympics.com)

Of those 12 teams, eight — including the top two finishers in each group, along with the two highest-ranked third-place teams — will qualify for the knockout stage, which is a single-elimination bracket. Should either the United States and Canada advance to this stage, they could continue playing until the final day of the games on Aug. 11.

Cerundolo is set to face Chile’s Tomas Barrios Vera, the No. 163 player on the ATP Tour, in the opening round.

Soccer
The format of the Olympic women’s soccer competition directly mirrors that of the women’s basketball competition — a group stage containing 12 teams divided into three groups of four, round-robin matchups, and eight teams moving onto the knockout rounds. The only difference is that Canada’s national team is the only one with Gamecock representation through goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo.
With soccer being one of the sports with competition beginning before the Opening Ceremony, Canada has already played one group stage game. The team beat New Zealand 2-1 on Thursday, July 25, and still has two group stage matches remaining.
