The MLB Draft is here, a frenzied three-day, 20-round blur that will impact what South Carolina’s roster looks like next season. The Gamecock had an older pitching staff this season mixed with young bats.

Current South Carolina players in the rankings
Baseball America has a slew of players with South Carolina ties in its top 500 prospect list, starting with Will Sanders at No. 65. Sanders, who had a tough 2023 season that did include some bright spots, is still widely considered a top 100 prospect and could go late on day one or very early day two.
BA considers Jack Mahoney, the Gamecocks’ best pitcher of the final month of the season, the No. 178 player in this draft.
Noah Hall checks in next at No. 204 followed by another infielder in Braylen Wimmer at No. 256. Baseball America considers Gavin Casas–who already withdrew from the draft–the No. 404 player. James Hicks rounds out the list at No. 484.

Gamecocks signees, commitments in the rankings
The highest-rated signee at Baseball America is Wolkow, who BA gives a 50 grade on the 20-80 scale and someone who is still just 17 years old. They rank him as the No. 80 player in the top 500 prospects list.
Signee Lee Ellis sits at No. 263 while transfer portal commitment Matt Duffy checks in at No. 478 overall. Duffy, the MAAC pitcher of the Year, just made his announcement official Friday night a few days before the draft starts.
Doyle has Wolkow as the No. 117 prospect in the class and Ellis at No. 330. Duffy comes in at No. 239 on his list. MLB.com considers Wolkow–the only signee on its list–the No. 71 prospect.
Wolkow is the only South Carolina signee to crack ESPN’s top 300, coming in at No. 104.
