Where the 2023 recruiting class sits in mid-December

Shane Beamer currently has 20 recruits in the class of 2023 committed to play their college ball at South Carolina.

20 percent of those recruits are from the Palmetto State and 50 percent are Blue Chip recruits.

The class is currently ranked No. 17 in the country and No. 7 in the SEC.

With the early signing day just over the horizon on Dec. 21, lets take a look at where the Gamecocks 2023 recruiting class sits:

IOL Markee Anderson

At 6-foot-3, 300 pounds – Anderson is currently South Carolina’s top recruit in the class of 2023. 

Anderson is a four star offensive lineman across all major recruiting databases and On3 currently has him rated as a 93. 

He played his high school ball at Dorman, a powerhouse in the upstate, and is currently ranked No. 2 in the state, No. 9 at his position and No. 136 in the country. 

EDGE Desmond Umeozulu

Umeozulu is the second of three top-200 recruits that have committed to South Carolina. 

The Maryland native was the most recent commit of the class of 2023. He committed on Aug. 29. 

Umeozulu certainly has the SEC measurables, coming in at 6-foot-6, 239 pounds. 

The edge rusher is a four star recruit ranked No. 3 in his state, No. 22 at his position and No. 174 in the country. 

LB Grayson “Pup” Howard

While he might be the most active Twitter user of the class, Howard is currently the third highest rated recruit for Beamer’s 2023 class. 

A four star recruit, Howard is ranked No. 178 nationally in the class by On3. 

The 6-foot-3 linebacker from Florida is ranked No. 41 in the Sunshine State and No. 17 at his position. 

DL Xzavier McLeod 

Hailing from Camden, McLeod is the No. 3 recruit in South Carolina. 

The 6-foot-4, 325 pound defensive lineman will bring welcomed depth to a rapidly aging position group. 

McLeod is a four star recruit ranked No. 23 among players at his position and just missed out being ranked in the top 200, coming in at No. 206. 

DL Zavion Hardy 

The four star defensive lineman will pair nicely with McLeod one day once the two have developed. 

Hardy is the No. 18 recruit in the state of Georgia and On3 has him ranked No. 213 natinally. 

The 6-foot-5, 260 pound lineman is ranked just two spots behind McLeod at the defensive line position.

RB Dontavious Braswell

Braswell is the highest ranked skill player that Beamer has committed to the Gamecocks in the class of 2023. 

The 5-foot-11 running back from Georgia is a four star recruit and slides in at No. 22 among all Peach State recruits. 

Braswell is the No. 14 running back in his class and is ranked No. 238 nationally. 

OT Oluwatosin Babalade 

At 6-foot-5, 305 pounds, Babalade certainly lives up to his nickname of “Tree”.

The four star offensive tackle plays his high school ball at DeMatha Catholic in Maryland, the same school that MarShawn Lloyd attended. 

Babalade is the No. 5 recruit in Maryland, No. 19 at the tackle position and No. 250 in the nation. 

EDGE Monteque Rhames

Gamecocks fans may soon live in a world where Rhames and Umeozulu would give them two local products coming off the edges at the same time. 

Rhames is the No. 4 recruit in South Carolina and No. 38 at his position. 

The 6-foot-5 edge rusher is ranked No. 341 nationally and is a four star recruit. 

IOL Trovon Baugh

Baugh is the final four star in South Carolina’s 2023 recruiting class. 

He’s the No. 30 recruit in the state of Georgia and is No. 23 at his positon. 

Baugh plays his high school ball at Pace Academy in Atlanta and is giving a 89.69 rating by On3. 

S Jalon Kilgore 

Another recruit from Georgia, Kilgore is the highest rated of the several safeties that Beamer is bringing to Columbia in the 2023 class.

On3 gives Kilgore a 88.78 rating and ranks the three star recruit as No. 444 in the country. 

Kilgore is No. 42 in the state and No. 43 at the safety position. 

WR Kelton Henderson

The 5-foot-11 wide receiver from Fort Meyers, Florida comes in as a three star recruit with an On3 rating of 88.61.

Henderson is ranked No. 65 among all other wide receivers in the country and is No. 84 in the state of Florida.

He is ranked No. 460 nationally in the class of 2023.

ATH Vicari Swain

Swain is being recruited by Beamer and his staff to play wide receiver but he’s perfectly capable of playing defensive back if needed.

The 6-foot, three star recruit from Georgia is currently No. 50 in the state and his 87.91 rating from On3 is good enough to rank him No. 563 nationally.

Swain is ranked No. 22 for athletes in the class of 2023.

OT Isaiah Jatta

Jatta is someone who will likely be able to come in and get some playing time sooner rather than later for the Gamecocks.

The four star offensive tackle is transferring from Snow College, a JUCO in Utah.

Jatta is currently the No. 7 JUCO prospect, according to On3. The San Diego native is ranked No. 1 in his state and No. 2 at his position among JUCO recruits.

S Zahbari Sandy

Sandy is a three star recruit from St. John’s (MD).

The safety is currently ranked No. 4 for his class in the state of Maryland and No. 55 for his position.

Sandy’s On3 rating of 87.80 slides him in at No. 582 nationally.

TE Connor Cox

With the recent roster turnover in the tight end room, Cox will be a welcomed addition to Jody Wright’s position group.

Cox is a 6-foot-5, three star recruit from Florida who currently ranks No. 37 at his position.

He has an On3 rating of 87.35, enough to slot him at No. 102 in the Sunshine State and No. 647 in the country.

WR CJ Adams

At 6-foot-3, Adams is the bigger of the two wide receivers in South Carolina’s 2023 class of recruits.

Adams is ranked No. 82 among recruits from Georgia and has an On3 rating of 86.20.

He is currently No. 859 nationally and No. 129 at his position.

TE Kamron Sandlin

Just like Cox, Sandlin will be a big piece to the tight room in the future.

Sandlin is the No. 35 recruit in the state of Alabama and No. 51 among all tight ends.

The three star recruit checks in at 6-foot-4, 220 pounds and On3 gives him a rating of 85.72.

OT Jatavius Shivers

Shivers is a 6-foot-7, 270 pound three star offensive tackle from Villa Rica, Georgia.

He is the No. 60 ranked tackle in the class of 2023 and is the No. 96 ranked recruit in Georgia.

S Cameron Upshaw

Upshaw is a three star safety from Taylor County in Perry, Florida.

On3 gives him a 85.55 rating, good enough to slot him as the No. 87 ranked safety in the class.

Upshaw is the No. 138 best player in Florida and is ranked No. 963 nationally.

S Judge Collier

The final recruit in South Carolina’s 2023 class of recruits (unless another recruit commits) is from the Palmetto State.

Collier is from Rock Hill and is currently ranked at No. 20 among other Palmetto State recruits.

He is a three star safety who is 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds.
