Whether you want to admit it or not, everyone has had that same fantasy. You’d turn on your gaming console and insert a copy of any NCAA Football video game disc. It was a great time to be alive.

From there, you would create your own player and play the “Road to Glory” mode, where you can live out your college football dreams. We’ve all been there.

For over 10 years, there wasn’t a new college football video game to play. The last one to come out was NCAA 14, which featured Michigan’s Denard Robinson on the cover. If that doesn’t put it into perspective how long it’s been, who knows what will.

But this summer, everything is about to change. The beloved video game franchise is making a comeback. And for the college football players of today who grew up playing the game couldn’t be more excited.

“Why wouldn’t I, why wouldn’t I? Bro, I am so excited for it,” South Carolina running back Oscar Adaway III said. “People talk about it’s coming out in July. But I’m like psh, it might come out in July, it might not. I’m just ready to be in it to play with myself. I’m going to check myself in as soon as the game comes out. Putting myself in the game, I don’t care what position I’m in.”

Over the last few months, players from various schools have opted into the game. Some have gone out of their way to make it official with social media posts. By March 4, over 10,000 student athletes had decided they wanted to be a part of the return.

For those who do decide to opt in, they’ll receive $600 for the use of their name, image and likeness. Plus, they’ll also get a free copy of the game, which usually costs about $70. It’s an enticing deal, even for those who are still thinking about it.

“I haven’t opted in yet, but I plan on opting in,” David Spaulding said. “I’m very excited. It’s been a long time since they’ve came out with NCAA. I feel like everyone’s excited about it. And I will opt in.”

Others felt the game should’ve made its way back a long time ago. But they’re still happy it’s going to be back on shelves around the world in the next few months.

“Yeah, I definitely have. And it’s great,” Jalon Kilgore said. “I feel like this should’ve came even faster than it has. But I’m glad we are back in the game, and I feel like it’s going to be real fun for all the guys to see themselves in the game.”

South Carolina linebacker Bam Martin-Scott shared the same sentiment as his teammates, calling it a “great opportunity” to be a part of it.

“Yeah, I opted into the EA Sports game,” Martin-Scott said. “I always wanted to be in the game, so it’s like a dream come true, honestly. I just think it’s great that they’re bringing the game back.”

An exact release date hasn’t been revealed yet by EA Sports. But it should be out sometime in July.
